Handling Fragile and Restricted Goods: Preparing Beauty, Topical, and Liquid Products for FBA

Selling in the beauty, health, and topical categories on Amazon is incredibly lucrative. These products offer fantastic margins, consistent repeat purchases, and compact shipping sizes. But because these items are designed for personal care, Amazon subjects them to some of the strictest compliance standards on the platform.

One broken cap or leaky bottle can ruin an entire pallet of inventory, leading to disposal fees and negative customer reviews. Here is what it takes to execute flawless Amazon beauty product prep for delicate liquids and gels.

The Double-Sealing Rule for Liquids

Amazon considers any product containing liquid to be a potential spill hazard. If your product features a standard screw-top cap, it must undergo a strict sealing evaluation:

  • The Seal Check: Does the bottle have an internal manufactured safety seal? If not, the cap must be manually secured with clear, clean shrink bands or tape.

  • The Five-Foot Leak Test: Liquids must be placed inside a perfectly sealed poly-bag. The bag must be thick enough to ensure that if the container bursts under pressure during transit, no liquid escapes the plastic wrap.

Protecting Fine Glass and Cosmetic Packaging

High-end cosmetic items frequently utilize beautiful glass dropper bottles or custom fragile containers. These cannot simply be thrown into a standard box. They require comprehensive bubble wrapping, ensuring no glass-on-glass contact occurs inside the master carton.

Transparent Expiration Management

Topical creams and cosmetic items feature sensitive shelf lives. Amazon requires expiration dates to be clearly visible on the outermost packaging in a clean MM-DD-YYYY format, printed in a large, clear font size. If your manufacturer printed the date on the bottom of a bottle, that date must be duplicated on the outside of its protective poly-bag.
